A magnificent view of the Zsámbék Basin and the Buda Hills opens up from the Nyakas-tető (Nyakas Peak).
One of the region’s unique habitats and vegetation formations can be found on the open grassy sections of the mountain summit. The territory is part of the Natura 2000 network.
The former stone quarries can still be found on the Nyakas-tető (Nyakas Peak) that forms part of the Gerecse mountains. Building stones were quarried here until the middle of the last century, and used for numerous buildings in Zsámbék and the environs. According to the old stone miners, stones were also transported to Budapest – some of the stone carvings of the Parliament and the University of Debrecen Church were also made of this limestone. We can find open and enclosed limestone grasslands, rocky grass slopes, patches of steppe slopes and planted black pines on the limestone plateau stretching from Zsámbék to Perbál. The remnants of what were once larger oaks, Pannonian woods and shrub forests still appear on the edges. Part of the territory has been used as a pasture for centuries. The Vértes, Gerecse, Pilis, Buda Hills and Etyek hills, and the Zsámbék Basin enclosed by them are clearly visible from higher points.
