Tinnye

The village of Tinnye is located on the western edge of Pest County, in the Pilisvörösvár District, within the Budapest agglomeration, around 30-35 kilometers from Budapest by road (depending on direction of approach).

The settlement and environs were inhabited back in ancient times. Findings that date back to Roman, Hungarian Conquest and Árpád era and Turkish times have been found on its territory.

The village name may come from the Slavs who lived here before the Hungarian Conquest, with the meaning: swampy place.

The atmosphere is special as a result of old, noble stately homes, wealthy farmhouses and road sections that conserve history.

The Reformed church built on Árpád era foundations and the Catholic church constructed in Zopf (“braid”) style are two emblematic monuments in Tinnye.

The carved gravestone cemeteries, the streams and the small bridges across ditches make the image of this small settlement even more attractive.

This is where Lajos Kossuth bought an estate and house in the Age of Reform, and he is linked to the local history collection in the settlement, which is a private collection operating as a permanent exhibition. According to tradition Kossuth also ordered the planting of strawberries along the road leading out of the village.
