Perbál

According to some legends, the name of this nicely located settlement originates from the name of King Stephen’s confessional priest (Perbelus), while other sources claim the name has Slavic origins.

The first written reference definitely dates back to 1258 – when it was referred to as Perbar.

According to popular belief the castle of the Aynard family, who were also the owners of Zsámbék, stood here in the Middle Ages. Unfortunately, there are no relics left… They were destroyed during Turkish times, like so many other medieval settlements.

After the Turks were expelled, similarly to the surrounding settlements, Swabian settlers rebuilt the village. The characteristically long Swabian farmhouses can still be found here and there today with thick stone fences.

In addition to the late Baroque parish church, a wooden sculptural composition at one of the stations commemorates those who were deported to Germany.
