The green gate to Budapest – as Herceghalom is known these days. And indeed the village is one of the greenest settlements in the Zsámbék Basin.
Visitors to the village will first notice the large number of plants, the green space and tidiness, yet we can still find built assets here too.
The village is located on the western edge of Pest County, just 26 kilometers from the center of Budapest, and is therefore easy to access. The landscape is pleasant and diverse.
Herceghalom is surrounded by two water channels: the Békás (“Frog”) stream, which follows the village boundary to the east and the Kígyós (“Snake”) stream, running north to south from Háromrózsa. The paplapos tributary of the Kígyós (Snake) stream’ trickles into the middle of the village.
Large-scale farming has always been and still remains characteristic of Herceghalom today, as the settlement has some of the best-quality agricultural land in the country.
The village streets and parks are kept neat and tidy and lend the village a suburban appearance. The lines of chestnut trees provide visitors with a rare experience, allowing them to keep cool under the hundred year-old Methuselahs.
The settlement’s role in tourism and commerce has been strengthened through developments and investment projects of the last few years. When visiting, you should definitely take a look at the former ÁKI building and garden, the water tower, the Sándor courtyard and the chapel, and go for a walk in the Chestnut Park on the twin tree-lined path of Gesztenyés út and of course in the Woods.
