Traditional folk houses

Walking along the old streets we can see a lot of “longhouses” with porches, constructed in the last century, in the 20s and 30s.

This house type has rooms with different functions:

the house, cellar, pantry, shed and barn are lined up one after the other under one roof or pushed together, only the pigsties, wood store, corncrib and lavatory are separately located. This house construction method is both frugal and practical, as it provides lodging for the whole extended family in the same household.

In many other places the old carved and stacked stone fence is still visible today, along with the two gateposts – which were made from one single slab of stone, just like the porch posts. In addition we can still come across original wooden or iron gates. Various different plastering decorations can be observed on the street front facades of the traditional farmhouses.
